The stomach swells after eating what to take. Persistent Gas and Bloating: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Bloating after eating is a symptom that almost every person has had to deal with in life. Have you ever wondered why this condition occurs? How to deal with it correctly? Is it harmless or indicates the presence of pathology in the body?

Symptoms

Bloating (flatulence) is an unpleasant condition in which, due to indigestion, too much accumulates in the intestines. a large number of gases. It occurs immediately after eating and may be accompanied by hiccups, feeling full, belching, rumbling, lack of appetite, headaches, and nausea. The abdomen "swells up", becomes dense. Often there are spasms, heaviness, stabbing or cramping pain in the stomach and intestines, which disappear after the passage of gases.

The reasons

It is important to know that bloating never occurs on its own, and there can be many reasons for its occurrence.

Eating disorders are the most common cause of flatulence. Constant snacking, refusing full meals, overeating at night harm the body, disrupt the functioning of the stomach and normal process digestion. The stomach starts to churn. Wrong choice of diet. Excessive consumption of black bread, fresh cabbage, legumes, soda water, raw vegetables and fruits can provoke fermentation in the intestines and the stomach will begin to swell. Acute and chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. In this case, flatulence will be one of the symptoms of pathology. It can be observed with gastritis of the stomach, cholecystitis, dysbacteriosis. Often swells with colitis and enterocolitis. Diseases of other internal organs. The abdomen is quite often swollen and puffy with pathology of the kidneys, spine, of cardio-vascular system. enzyme deficiency. This problem may be due to a deficiency of phenylalanine or lactose, with the breakdown of gluten. Digestive disorders. Especially often the stomach "swells up" with constipation. Intestinal obstruction, during which there is a delay in defecation and gas discharge. Flatulence is accompanied severe pain in the area of the intestines and stomach, heaviness, nausea, vomiting, intoxication of the body. Psychological factors. Doctors have proven that long-term emotional stress negatively affects the processes of digestion and the work of the stomach. During stress, pain, heaviness, spasms can appear. Can bloat the stomach.

Origin mechanisms

Mechanisms for the appearance of flatulence are associated with its cause.

So, when overeating, the stomach cannot cope with the volume of incoming food and pushes it into the intestines, where poorly digested food begins to decompose, provoking gas formation. When some foods are abused (for example, cabbage or brown bread), flatulence occurs as a result of food fermentation in the intestines. If the problem is enzyme deficiency, food simply cannot be fully digested and absorbed. As a result, after eating, a number of unpleasant symptoms occur: heaviness, nausea, pain in the stomach, belching, and the stomach begins to swell.

How to get rid of bloating?

Currently, there are many ways to deal with this condition: medications, diet, folk recipes and others. Let's consider them in more detail.

Medications

Drugs prescribed for bloating can be divided into groups.

The first group includes enterosorbents. They are easily digested, quickly and effectively absorb excess gases in the intestines and are excreted from the body along with them. For long-term treatment enterosorbents are not suitable, because together with gases they remove useful substances from the body. The preparations of this group include: Activated carbon, Polyphepan, Polysorb, Enterosgel, Laktofiltrum and others. Enzymes. These include: Mezim, Creon, Pancreatin, Festal and others. They are prescribed for a lack of enzymes, errors in nutrition, overeating and in the complex therapy of certain diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Disadvantages - a number of contraindications, a full course of treatment is required. Defoamers. The action of these agents is based on the deposition of a mucous foam, in the bubbles of which there is gas. They accelerate the natural release of gases from the body and alleviate the patient's condition, relieve heaviness after eating. Defoamers are powerful agents. They have practically no contraindications and side effects. They can be prescribed for the treatment of flatulence, even for infants. Known drug this group - Espumizan. Probiotics. They normalize the intestinal microflora, strengthen the immune system, improve the functions of digestion and stomach work. These include: Hilak forte, Bifidumbacterin, Bifistim, Bifiform, Linex forte, Acipol, Baktisubtil, Lineks and others. The main disadvantage is that they require a long reception.

Consider some pharmaceutical preparations well-known manufacturers.

Do you still think that curing the stomach and intestines is difficult?

Judging by the fact that you are now reading these lines - a victory in the fight against diseases gastrointestinal tract while not on your side...

Have you thought about surgery yet? It is understandable, because the stomach is very important organ and its proper functioning is the key to health and well-being. Frequent pains in the abdomen, heartburn, bloating, belching, nausea, impaired stool... All these symptoms are familiar to you firsthand.

But perhaps it is more correct to treat not the consequence, but the cause? Here is the story of Galina Savina, about how she got rid of all these unpleasant symptoms... Read the article >>>

A large percentage of people are faced with such a problem as bloating. Most often, this symptom occurs in people over thirty years of age or in pregnant women. Sometimes it indicates the occurrence of any disease or pathology of the internal organs.

The scientific name for this rather unpleasant, but quite common phenomenon is flatulence. This phenomenon consists in the fact that a sufficiently large volume of gases, liquids and solids accumulate in the intestines, which lead to bloating. In principle, this phenomenon is quite common, but if it leads to unpleasant or even pain, then we can talk about problems in the body.

In this article we will talk about bloating in adults, consider the main causes of this unpleasant symptom, as well as effective ways treatment at home.

Causes of bloating in adults

Bloating, the causes of which we will now try to find out, can be permanent or occur from time to time. A constant increase in volume, as a rule, indicates diseases abdominal cavity e.g. organ enlargement, tumor, fluid accumulation, obesity. Periodic bloating is caused by a violation of digestion, and may also be accompanied by the accumulation of fluid or gases. Constant bloating differs from periodic bloating in that it does not go away. a long period time.

The causes of bloating can range from overindulgence in carbonated drinks and high-fat foods to a serious medical condition. Consider the most common:

If foods that contain a lot of fiber are constantly present in the diet, gases are formed in the body. Carbohydrates are easily digested and start the fermentation process, resulting in heaviness and bloating. Therefore, you need to be careful with the use of legumes, apples, eggs, black bread and kvass, as well as cabbage. Bloating of the abdomen after eating. Eating food, a person in the process swallows a certain amount of air. In a hurry, quick snacks, for someone who likes to talk while eating, the stomach is filled with air much more than it should be. This leads to a feeling of fullness in the gastrointestinal tract. Gas can cause nausea, sharp, short-term pain. Too much food. This is one of the main causes of bloating and occurs when too much food is eaten at one time. Too much salt, foods with high content salts, such as chips, can cause flatulence. Foods high in sodium cause the body to retain water and lead to bloating. Irritable stomach syndrome. If intestinal motility is impaired, and its movements become unlined and chaotic, then this disease occurs. The intestines may look completely normal. A person suffering from such an ailment experiences frequent pain, periodically there is an urge to stool or, on the contrary, constipation. Very often we can observe bloating in colitis, chronic pancreatitis, enteritis, gastritis. Thus, you can sometimes even self-diagnose the presence of certain diseases. For example, if the stomach swells immediately after you have taken a meal, then you can be sure that gastritis or pancreatitis is taking place. Intestinal dysbacteriosis causes increased formation of gases in the colon. The large intestine normally contains microbes, they are beneficial to us, as they protect our body from other, harmful microbes. When the protective properties of the body fall, alien microbes appear in the intestines with their own ways of digesting food (rotting and fermentation), which is accompanied by the formation of a large amount of gas, often with a fetid odor, since such gases include methane, hydrogen sulfide and ammonia. Also quite often bloating is observed during pregnancy. In the early stages, this may be due to high content in the body of progesterone, which provokes not only the relaxation of the muscles of the uterus, but also reduces the motor function of the intestines and stomach. In the third trimester, this can lead to a significant increase in the uterus. The causes may also be congenital insufficiency of digestive enzymes, malnutrition, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Constipation. This usually happens when you have a low fiber intake in your diet, or you don't drink enough fluids to make regular stools easier.

In addition to all of the above diseases, ailments such as blockage of pathways can lead to bloating. urinary system, diverculitis, appendicitis, ulcers and cholelithiasis.

Causes of persistent bloating

If we consider the causes of constant bloating in patients, then almost always they lie in their diseases. So, people are susceptible to this symptom if they have diseases:

cirrhosis of the liver; peritonitis; pancreatitis; dysbacteriosis; hepatoma.

If we consider provoking factors for healthy people, then we can distinguish:

improper food intake, swallowing large portions with poor chewing; consumption of foods high in starch; addiction to sweet and starchy foods; soda consumption.

As with accompanying symptoms, get rid of increased gas formation You can completely cure the underlying disease, or by adjusting your diet.

Symptoms

With bloating in a person, characteristic symptoms appear:

feeling of fullness and heaviness; aching pains or colic in various parts of the abdomen.

Intestinal colic usually disappears after passing gases. In addition, if there is a large amount of gas in the intestines, nausea, constipation or diarrhea may occur, bad taste in the mouth, loss of appetite, belching, bad smell from mouth.

Talk to your doctor if bloating is accompanied by any of the following:

Severe, prolonged or recurring abdominal pain. Nausea and vomiting. Blood in the stool. Loss of body weight. Temperature rise. Chest pain.

It is worth knowing that when long-term disorders digestion, accompanied by increased gas formation, there are signs of intoxication - general weakness, insomnia, malaise, irritability, depression, headaches, heart rhythm disturbances, shortness of breath, and so on.

Diagnostics

Before determining how to treat bloating, it is worth undergoing an examination and determining the causes of its occurrence. First of all, attention should be paid to the diet and food intake. This will help determine which foods may have been causing the gas.

Then the attending physician will give a referral to:

analysis of feces for intestinal microflora; study of bile; study gastric juice; bacterial analysis of feces; ultrasound examination of the digestive organs.

Depending on the diagnostic data obtained, as well as the severity of symptoms of flatulence, a treatment regimen is determined.

Treatment for bloating

As with any disease, the first step in the treatment of bloating is to eliminate the cause that causes increased gas formation:

nutrition correction; treatment of the underlying disease; recovery motor function(by prescribing prokinetics); treatment of imbalances in the intestinal microflora (probiotics, biological products, herbal medicine); removal of accumulated gases from the intestinal lumen.

At home, you should normalize your diet. Exclude from the diet foods that release a large amount of gases during digestion. This is a cabbage legumes, rice, whole milk. Eat whole grain bread, dairy products, fresh vegetables and fruits regularly.

Start exercising daily and make it a rule to walk at least 3 km a day. If you do not have any serious diseases of the internal organs, then this program will definitely help you get rid of bloating.

Treatment of bloating caused by intestinal dysbacteriosis, gastritis, peptic ulcer or enterocolitis is reduced to the treatment of the disease itself, which initiates flatulence. With flatulence, which is a consequence of chronic pancreatitis, i.e. lack of pancreatic enzymes, they are treated with drugs containing these enzymes.

Tablets

Modern pharmacology offers such pills for the treatment of bloating at home:

Activated charcoal, released in the form of tablets. With flatulence, this medicine is taken on the eve of meals, 1 to 3 pcs. Children under 7 years old are given 1 to 2 tablets. Wash them down with ordinary boiled water; Espumizan and other preparations based on simethicone. Take Espumizan in the form of capsules or emulsion, two to three times a day with meals, sometimes it is recommended to take this drug extra before bed. Espumizan can also be used to relieve episodic accumulation of gases in the intestines, which occurred due to a violation of the diet, in the postoperative period or with constipation. The composition of tablets from bloating called " White coal» based on dietary fiber. As they swell, they absorb many toxins and gases. Take them before meals, 1 - 2 pcs.

It should be borne in mind that the above intestinal adsorbents are preparations with surface activity that can collect gases on themselves, but they will not solve the main cause of flatulence. Therefore, such tablets can only be used when symptomatic treatment, in case of diet violations: with overeating, poisoning, the use of dairy products with lactose deficiency. These situations are not chronic, and flatulence is just an unpleasant symptom, easily removed with a pill against bloating.

Folk remedies

Well help to cope with bloating such folk recipes:

A decoction of parsley - 20 g of the fruit of the plant, pour 1 tbsp warm water, hold for a couple of about 30 minutes, cool. Strain and consume 1 tbsp 4-5 times a day; Dill water- 1 tbsp of dry dill seeds pour 1 tbsp of boiling water, leave for 1-2 hours, strain and take 1/4 cup 2-3 times a day; A decoction of wormwood - 1 tsp of dry grass, pour 1 tbsp of boiling water, leave for 30 minutes, strain, cool and take 1 tbsp 3 times a day before meals.

If bloating is not caused by malnutrition, but is a consequence of any disease, then the very cause of flatulence should be treated, after consulting a doctor.

Bloating after eating can occur not only in the presence of diseases of the digestive system, but also in their complete absence. In medicine, this condition is called "flatulence".

Discomfort may result various factors. To eliminate swelling, it is necessary to find out its cause and, if necessary, conduct a comprehensive course of treatment.

Causes of flatulence

Numerous external and internal factors can lead to the accumulation of gases in the abdomen. Some foods are distinguished by their ability to cause flatulence even when consumed in minimal quantities.

An important role is played by the state of the intestinal microflora. At its slightest violation, there is a risk of bloating after eating.

Causes severe swelling stomach after eating may be the following factors:

excessive psycho-emotional stress(condition nervous system directly affects the digestion process, frequent stress and hypersensitivity psyche can cause serious disturbances in the assimilation of food); frequent use foods that cause flatulence(sweets, cabbage, legumes, as well as other ingredients with a high content of coarse fiber and starch, fatty foods are also poorly digested and absorbed); bad habits(alcohol and smoking can cause a significant deviation in the efficiency of the digestive system, especially in the presence of even minor diseases of the gastrointestinal tract); swallowing air when eating food and liquids(the cause of excessive air intake can be talking during meals, quick snacks combined with poor chewing of food, as well as the use of carbonated drinks in the process of eating);

binge eating(especially if foods that are not compatible with each other are used, the diet of each person must be balanced, those who follow the rules of fractional nutrition are least prone to flatulence);

violation of the intestinal microflora(the most common cause of bloating and gas after eating is an increase in the number of stomach bacteria that produce hydrogen, carbon dioxide and methane, a deviation may occur as a result of malnutrition or a consequence of diseases of the digestive system); (flatulence in this case is always accompanied by constipation or diarrhea, such a condition can be provoked by both external factors, and developing pathologies of the digestive system); consequences of intestinal dysbacteriosis(this disease is one of the consequences of a violation of the intestinal microflora); bowel obstruction(Tumours or polyps in the intestines can provoke such a condition, it is quite difficult to cure these diseases with medicines, therefore, doctors most often use surgical methods).

The cause of flatulence may be individual lactose intolerance. It is not difficult to identify such a condition on your own. It is important to pay attention to what kind of food discomfort occurs after eating. If bloating is manifested mainly from dairy products, then the fact of lactose intolerance is obvious.

The combination of flatulence with other symptoms

Bloating can occur in combination with other unpleasant symptoms. If the cause of this condition is not malnutrition, overeating or other external factors, then the cause of it must be sought in the health and abnormalities of the digestive system. Some serious diseases of the gastrointestinal tract manifest as flatulence.

Possible conditions for bloating:

The periodic occurrence of bloating is experienced by almost all people, regardless of health status. In some cases, this condition is a natural reaction of the body to various factors (for example, overeating, a combination of incompatible products, nervous tension or talking while eating).

Single symptoms are not a cause for concern, but if there is belching, nausea or vomiting, you should contact a gastroenterologist.

A sign of what diseases can be bloating?

With the regular occurrence of bloating, an important role is played by concomitant symptoms. In some cases, specialists can preliminarily establish a diagnosis based on a general examination of the patient and his complaints. It is impossible to ignore frequent bouts of flatulence in any case.

Serious deviations in work may be accompanied by a similar symptom. digestive tract, which, when the form is running, will have to be removed surgically.

Bloating is accompanied by the following diseases:

hernia(any kind of hernia can provoke bloating after eating, especially if they are located on the digestive organs); bowel obstruction(the condition may be a congenital pathology or a consequence of the development of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract); chronic pancreatitis (the disease is the development of an inflammatory process in the pancreas); violation of the blood supply to the intestines(the condition becomes a consequence of the development of diseases of the digestive system or the result of surgical intervention in the organs of the gastrointestinal tract); irritable bowel syndrome(the disease is accompanied by deviations in bowel movements, patients experience abdominal discomfort, diarrhea or constipation); tumors(any neoplasm can cause permanent bloating); erosive bulbitis (inflammatory process developing in the duodenal bulb, the danger of the disease lies in the risk of an ulcer); Crohn's disease(patients experience a sharp weight loss, blood impurities appear in the stool, the disease is accompanied by diarrhea, bloating and pain in the intestines);

intestinal colitis (a disease in which the inflammatory process affects the mucous membranes of the large intestine, the disease can develop against the background of progressive gastritis);

intestinal dysbacteriosis (additional symptoms are an unpleasant taste in the mouth, loss of appetite, nausea and general malaise); lactose intolerance(this condition is characterized by individual intolerance to dairy products, the deviation can be inherited and be congenital); intestinal infection(infection can enter the intestine through the esophagus or blood, make a diagnosis infectious diseases possible only with a comprehensive examination by a specialist); the presence of foreign objects in the intestines(Small foreign particles that have entered the esophagus or intestines can become the cause of a violation of the digestive process).

An alarming signal is the simultaneous occurrence of bloating and symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, pain spasms, dizziness, belching and fever. When such signs appear, a visit to the doctor should not be postponed. Only on the basis of a comprehensive examination it will be possible to establish an accurate diagnosis, after which treatment will have to be started as soon as possible.

How to treat flatulence?

Treatment of persistent bloating occurs in the form of complex therapy. The patient needs to change the diet, undergo a comprehensive examination and take all measures aimed at restoring the working capacity of the digestive system.

The nuances of the treatment of flatulence:

with the appearance of regular bloating after eating, mandatory specialists, who need to be examined are a gastroenterologist and a therapist (the course of treatment will directly depend on the deviations that these doctors will reveal); to find out the cause of bloating, it is necessary to undergo an examination by a specialist, if abnormalities in the work of the digestive system are detected, the doctor will prescribe appropriate drugs (if bloating occurs rarely and only after negative factors, then it is not necessary to go to a medical institution, drugs to normalize digestion are sold in pharmacies without a prescription); excluded from the diet harmful products nutrition(coffee, sweets, fatty foods, spicy dishes and preserves, after the course of treatment, these products can be consumed, but only if their quantity is controlled); help normalize digestion can fresh pumpkin juice (daily for a week it should be consumed 200 ml per day);

bismuth preparations and activated carbon have the ability to remove accumulated gases well(these funds are mandatory in the course of treatment of flatulence, regardless of the cause of its occurrence);

Dairy products must be included in the diet (this group products are distinguished by the ability to normalize digestion and intestinal microflora); traditional medicine recommends drinking aloe juice mixed with honey in equal proportions(allergy sufferers should not deal with this method of treatment); when using methods alternative medicine it is necessary to objectively evaluate recipes and health status (for example, if there is a tendency to allergies, then experimenting with recipes that include allergens is not worth it); regular use of a decoction of chamomile will help prevent bloating;

stressful situations should be kept to a minimum(if the psyche is too sensitive, then you can drink a course of antidepressants or sedatives);

to prevent bloating, it is recommended to drink at least a small amount of herbal tea after meals (you can use pharmacy fees, St. John's wort, calendula, chamomile or fennel); eating should be done in a calm environment(talking while eating, quick snacks or simultaneous use carbonated drinks with meals should be excluded).

When bloating occurs an hour after eating, it is important to pay attention to the frequency this feature. If there was overeating, a quick snack, or eating a large amount of harmful foods, then the causes of discomfort are obvious. In cases where swelling is manifested constantly, it is necessary to visit a doctor and undergo an appropriate examination.

Gas formation is a completely natural process that occurs in the intestines. But increased gas formation is already a deviation and requires immediate action. First of all, it is necessary to figure out what caused the disease and what to do when flatulence appears, how to treat the disorder.

1 General information about the violation

Flatulence inevitably occurs in a healthy person if air is swallowed during a meal. Usually, air is swallowed in a volume of 2-3 ml and makes up about 70% of all air in the gastrointestinal tract.

The remaining 30% are formed in the intestines as a result of the activity of microorganisms. Typically, this gas is removed in one of three ways:

  • belching;
  • through the blood;
  • through the rectum.

An unhealthy diet and serious diseases of the gastrointestinal tract can lead to increased gas formation (or flatulence). Intestinal gases are compounds of air, carbon dioxide and a small amount of methane.

This is how the process of gas formation proceeds in healthy body. With an increase in gas formation or a violation of the removal mechanism, extremely unpleasant symptoms appear:

  • there is a feeling of heaviness, fullness and overcrowding in the abdomen;
  • flatulence - the release of gas from the intestines more often than normal;
  • discomfort;
  • rumbling in the stomach;
  • nausea;
  • vomit;
  • worsening sleep and mood;
  • unpleasant taste in the mouth;
  • diarrhea or constipation;
  • bloating due to increased gas volume,

As a result of stretching of the intestinal walls, pain often occurs, the location of which can change as the gas passes. After a bowel movement or removal of gas, the pain usually goes away.

2 Causes of flatulence

The process of gas formation in the intestines causes and treatment is most often associated with a change in diet. If you understand the causes of increased gas formation in the intestines, then you can determine how to deal with the emerging violation most effectively. Since increased gas formation can accompany other diseases, timely detection These factors will allow to influence the cause of the disease and prevent its further development.

The reasons, bloating and flatulence are very varied.

The main reason is excessive swallowing of air. It can occur with excessive inhalation while smoking, talking while eating, hasty eating, or drawing air through a tooth gap. Sometimes too much air enters the gastrointestinal tract due to inflammatory diseases throats that cause discomfort when swallowing (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, tonsillitis, etc.). The volume of air swallowed is increased foreign bodies in oral cavity: braces, prostheses.

Increased gas formation can cause food:

  • Rye bread;
  • products, fermenting: beer, kvass;
  • vegetables: cabbage (especially sauerkraut), tomatoes, legumes, sorrel;
  • mushrooms;
  • meat: lamb, beef;
  • sweets: chocolate, carbonated drinks;
  • fruit: Exotic fruits, apples, pears, grapes, watermelon.

In some diseases, for example, a gastrointestinal form of allergy, gas formation can be observed when taking products, regardless of their type.

3 Disorders of the digestive tract that contribute to the formation of gases

Frequent strong formation of gases in men and women can be caused by a violation of the digestive tract. Such a constant violation of the digestive processes may be due to the following factors:

  • insufficiency of excretion digestive enzymes;
  • the presence of peptic ulcer and gastritis;
  • weakening of digestive functions;
  • insufficiency of the formation of the digestive system in infancy, about 70% of newborn babies face this problem.
  • the use by a woman during breastfeeding of products that cause gas formation;
  • improper attachment of babies to the breast, which leads to the swallowing of air;
  • violation of peristalsis due to the use of a large amount of protein food with a sedentary lifestyle;
  • the occurrence in the body of hormonal disorders and failures;
  • increased gas formation may be due to genetic abnormalities.

Increase the amount of gas stressful situation. The hormone adrenaline produced during stress stops the motility of the digestive organs, narrows blood vessels. As a result, the absorption and excretion of gases are disturbed.

4 Diagnosis of bloating

To establish accurate diagnosis the patient needs to see a doctor and undergo an examination.

First, with increased gas formation in the intestine, palpation is performed - a study by probing the abdomen. The examination is carried out lying down, allows you to identify external signs of the disease. If the patient does not have external signs manifestations of diseases and disorders, a clinical general analysis blood.

Holding biochemical research blood allows to detect the development of liver diseases, which usually lead to a decrease in bile, which entails a deterioration in the digestion of food and intestinal motility. In the patient's blood, an increase in certain substances is often observed: protein, albumin,.

Fecal analysis makes it possible to identify the ratio of pathogenic, conditionally dangerous and beneficial bacteria. Increasing quantity harmful microorganisms indicates the presence of intestinal dysbiosis.

Ultrasound examination of the abdominal cavity allows you to see an accurate picture of diseases:

  • in women, the presence of neoplasms (cysts or tumors of the ovary);
  • the appearance of foci of inflammation;
  • changes in the organs of the digestive system (enlargement, deformation, etc.);
  • the presence of free fluid in the abdominal cavity.

Radiography allows you to establish pathologies that may be accompanied by the appearance of such a symptom as excessive gas formation - this is intestinal obstruction, fecal stones, swelling of the intestinal loop, etc.

5 Methods of treatment

100% of people face periodic violations of gas formation. Usually, increased gas formation does not pose a danger to human life. healthy person it is enough to take medicines - an antispasmodic and an adsorbent - to completely eliminate the symptoms of flatulence. Full recovery may take up to 40 minutes. Pain disappears after the removal of gases and defecation.

In some cases, medication is not enough, the pain does not go away. This may indicate the presence of other serious diseases:

  • in women - a breakthrough of an ovarian cyst;
  • intestinal obstruction;
  • attack of appendicitis;
  • peritonitis.

Having dealt with the causes of the onset of the disease, it becomes much easier to understand how to reduce gas formation in the intestines and how to treat the disorder that has arisen in the body.

The selection of drugs that allow you to get rid of increased gas formation in the stomach is carried out by the attending physician, taking into account the characteristics of the disease and individual characteristics patient. To normalize the processes of gas formation, drugs are used that help reduce the level of gastric peristalsis, medications, which include enzyme complexes and complexes that help normalize the microflora of the stomach. In accordance with accepted methods, flatulence is also treated with carminative drugs. These tools allow you to reduce the degree of gas formation that characterizes flatulence. This group of medicines includes adsorbents, phytopreparations and preparations, which include defoaming substances.

If increased gas formation in the abdomen is caused by too much slowdown in the movement of the food bolus through the gastrointestinal tract, then prokinetics are used to eliminate this problem. In the event of spasms in the process of treating pathology, antispasmodics are used. One of the most common drugs of the antispasmodic group, which are used in the treatment of gas formation, is Drotaverine.

The adsorbents used in the treatment provide gas absorption. Additionally, these drugs are able to absorb nutrients, so it is not recommended to take drugs of this type for a long period.

6 Impact of bad habits and diet

Because bad habits(smoking, alcohol) often cause increased gas formation, they should be abandoned. Chewing gum should also be avoided, as air is swallowed during continuous chewing.

With increased gas formation, you can take medications. Most often, Simethicone, activated charcoal or Espumizan are prescribed, often enzyme preparations.

In some cases, the listed measures may not give the desired result, for example, when the cause of flatulence is a disease of the gastrointestinal tract. Such cases require serious treatment.

7 Prevention measures

Like other diseases, increased gas formation in men and women is much easier to prevent than to treat. To do this, you need to follow simple steps.

First of all, you need to reduce the amount of foods in the diet that can worsen the condition of the stomach and intestines - these are foods that provoke the fermentation process. You need to limit the volume of foods that are poorly digested due to the large amount of coarse retina (apples, spinach, cabbage, etc.). If possible, it is better to exclude smoked meat, fried food and fast carbohydrates.

Increased gas formation may appear due to a violation of the intestinal microflora. This often happens after long-term antibiotic treatment. It is necessary to restore the microflora by including fermented milk products in the diet.

8 Folk remedies to combat gas formation

If flatulence is caused by a nutritional disorder, some spices and herbs that can have a beneficial effect on the digestion process can help. So, in India, it is customary to chew the seeds of anise, fennel or cumin after eating.

A decoction of licorice root helps fight bloating: 1 tbsp. l. crushed root pour a glass of boiling water and boil over low heat for 10 minutes.

Mint has a good carminative effect. To prepare a decoction, you can use any kind of this plant. Preparing a decoction is simple: you only need to pour 1 tbsp. l. mint leaves with a glass of water and hold for 5 minutes over low heat.

Slippery elm is considered one of the most effective means against increased gas formation. It is believed that it helps to eliminate even difficult cases of the disease. Slippery elm can be purchased at a pharmacy. It is an elm bark, mashed to a powder. It can be asked warm water or tea.

Increased gas formation is a serious problem that causes discomfort and requires an appropriate approach to treatment. Regardless of the reasons for the appearance, measures are taken to prevent deterioration of well-being. An important factor in treatment is the normalization of the daily routine.

The discomfort of bloating and gas is familiar to most people. With bloating, the volume of the abdomen increases against the usual size, in contrast to body fat, which a person gets used to and considers normal. Sometimes it may seem that the stomach is swollen (for example, when overeating), but in fact, outwardly, the size of the abdomen does not increase. This condition is not bloat. Bloating is due to the accumulation of fluid, gases or some kind of neoplasm and is accompanied not only by internal cramping, but also by a visible increase in the size of the abdominal cavity.

Causes of bloating

Bloating, the causes of which we will now try to find out, can be permanent or occur from time to time. A constant increase in volume, as a rule, indicates diseases of the abdominal cavity, for example, an increase in organs, a tumor, fluid accumulation, obesity. Periodic bloating is caused by a violation of digestion, and may also be accompanied by the accumulation of fluid or gases. Permanent bloating differs from periodic bloating in that it does not go away for a long period of time.

Improper digestion is the most common cause of abdominal discomfort. During normal digestion, part of the food is digested and is a source of energy for organs and tissues, while the remaining components are excreted from the body as waste. Part of the waste forms odorous gases, which are also easily excreted from the body. With improper digestion, sulfur-containing gases are formed in large quantities and accumulate in the intestines, stretching it and causing bloating of the abdominal cavity.

Increased gas formation can be a reaction of the body to individual foods, sometimes due to individual intolerance to any component. Bloating after eating due to the accumulation of gases is usually caused by the following foods:

  • fruits (eg apples, grapes, peaches);
  • vegetables (eg cabbage, onions, beans);
  • milk and dairy products;
  • whole grains, bran;
  • canned juices and fruit drinks;
  • sparkling water;
  • artificial sweeteners (fructose, sorbitol).

Gas formation also occurs in some diseases, for example, food allergies, lactose intolerance, irritable bowel syndrome.

However, not only food causing flatulence cause bloating. Causes of discomfort and even pain may include the following:

Gas in the abdomen causes discomfort, but this is not necessarily associated with a disease. A visit to the doctor, of course, does not hurt, but in individual cases may be an over-caution. If the bloating is accompanied by pain, diarrhea or constipation, bleeding from the anus, or weight loss, then urgent medical attention is needed.

Not only adults, but also children different ages subject to discomfort. Bloating in newborns is usually due to a buildup of fluid (permeability Bladder) or gastrointestinal disorders. Constipation, diarrhea, cirrhosis of the liver and hernia are far from complete list causes of bloating in children. At the same time, overeating and constipation, as well as swallowing air while eating or crying, are the most typical of them.

Treatment for bloating

Experts say fluid accumulation starts in the limbs and can be detected before it spreads to the abdomen. Therefore, let us pay attention to bloating, the treatment of which will be proposed here, which has arisen for a number of other reasons.

  1. 1. If you suffer from constipation, get rid of them. Low fiber and fluid content in the daily diet, as well as sedentary sedentary image life can cause constipation. Therefore, it is necessary to include whole grains, legumes, vegetables and fruits in your diet. Cabbage, beans, beans, and other fiber-rich foods can lead to gas initially, so introduce them gradually with plenty of fluids. Fluid regularly ingested will facilitate absorption and improve fiber tolerance, thereby preventing bloating in the fight against constipation. And be sure to exercise at least 20 minutes daily. Physical activity Helps speed up metabolism and bowel movements.
  2. 2. Give up carbonated and fruit drinks, canned juices. Drink water with lemon, lingonberries or cranberries, mint decoction or green tea. Some of these drinks will not only relieve thirst, but also help to remove excess fluid, and they also contain a number of components (vitamins, antioxidants) necessary for the body.
  3. 3. Avoid canned foods containing high amounts of monosodium glutamate. Sodium intake should be no more than 1.5 g per day.

  1. 4. Eat slowly, chewing your food well. Hasty eating of large pieces of food leads to the simultaneous swallowing of air, which causes bloating. Prolonged chewing also leads to better digestion and eating less food at a time. In addition, you should also eat small meals 5-7 times a day.
  2. 5. Stop chewing gum. Chewing gum also causes air to be swallowed, which can cause bloating. If you can’t do this right away, first replace the chewing gum with caramel or dried fruits.
  3. 6. Limit artificially sweetened foods and drinks. Experts say that sugar substitutes also cause bloating.
  4. 7. Try folk remedies for bloating. These include a decoction of mint, dill or parsley, ginger, natural juice pineapple. Safe foods for bloating also include yogurt that contains probiotics (good bacteria). It is likely that some of these tools will be useful in your case.
  5. 8. If food allergies are suspected, see a doctor for confirmation. You should not self-diagnose and refuse products containing many useful components (for example, milk or cereals). You can reduce the amount of their consumption or use, for example, dairy products with more low content lactose (yogurt, cheese).

Lifestyle changes can help cure bloating. However, do not treat this process as a ski jump. Change habits gradually, step by step, and each step you take will bring you closer to better health and better well-being. Leave behind the discomfort and inconvenience caused by bloating.

Many people systematically face the fact that their stomach is bursting after eating. If a person does not have any serious problems with the gastrointestinal tract, then this condition can be explained by overeating, or eating too fatty foods. But, in the case when people have a bloated stomach after eating and it hurts a lot, this may indicate the development dangerous diseases. To prevent unpleasant consequences, they need to immediately contact medical institutions for a consultation.

Why does the stomach swell up after eating?

If the stomach is greatly enlarged after eating, then the following internal and external factors should be considered as reasons:

  1. Diseases of the digestive tract.
  2. Eating unhealthy or flatulent food.
  3. Having bad food habits.
  4. Systematic overeating.

If a person has an increased formation of gases, and at the same time the process of removing them from the intestine is disturbed, then flatulence will become a consequence.

In parallel, the following symptoms may develop:

  • belching;
  • colic;
  • pain sensations;
  • belly bulges strongly.

If a person constantly swells his stomach, then this condition will cause a lot of physical inconvenience. The putrefactive and fermentation processes occurring in the lower parts of the digestive system will begin to provoke the formation of toxic substances. As a result, a person’s immunity will decrease, mood will worsen, the skin will become earthy, and an unpleasant smell will appear from the oral cavity.

Why does my belly swell up when I eat?

As a rule, in people, the stomach swells up after eating when the dishes consist of such products:

  • legumes;
  • milk;
  • nuts;
  • dairy products;
  • radishes;
  • drain;
  • pineapples;
  • white cabbage;
  • sweet pastries;
  • black varieties of bread;
  • potatoes;
  • carbonated drinks;
  • foods that are high in fat.

Digestive disorders can lead to abrupt change habitual diet in which a new product is introduced.

For example:

    1. Bloating is often experienced by people who decided to become a vegetarian. The rapid transition from protein foods to meals containing large amounts of fiber leads to natural reaction organism. Beginning vegetarians often have defecation processes that are disturbed, severe discomfort in the stomach appears, and gas formation increases. Nutritionists recommend that people who decide to give up animal protein gradually increase the amount of fiber in their diet. In this case, their digestive system will be able to smoothly adapt to the changes.
    2. The same problem is faced by people who increased the amount of food additives in the diet or bran, which contains vegetable fibers. They are advised by nutritionists to reduce daily dosage, due to which unpleasant symptoms will disappear.
    3. Many people have congenital or acquired lactose intolerance. That is why their body reacts with bloating when consuming dairy products.
    4. A feast can also provoke a pathological condition, during which people consume products incompatible with each other in unlimited quantities. Parallel taking alcoholic beverages leads to such unpleasant symptoms as colic, heartburn and belching. If a feast is planned, then people should know which foods should not be combined with each other. This is due to the fact that most of them have insufficient production of digestive enzymes, so their gastrointestinal tract is extremely difficult to cope with incoming food in a timely manner.

Bad food habits

Most people like to keep up a conversation during meals, as a result of which they swallow a large amount of air that enters the intestines. If a person does not have serious violations from the gastrointestinal tract, then the trapped air masses are quickly absorbed by the intestinal walls, after which they come out in the form of an eructation.

The same problem occurs in people who systematically chew gum. To prevent severe bloating, they should limit their chewing time to ten minutes. Swallowing air also occurs during smoking, so people who have this addiction should think about the consequences.

There are habits that can lead to bloating:

  1. If a person suffers from heartburn, and often extinguishes it baking soda, then gas formation may increase at such moments, which is why bloating is formed. This effect is due to the fact that soda penetrating into the stomach reacts with acids. The result of this chemical process is the release of a large amount of carbon dioxide.
  2. People who consume foods (sweets, confectionery, etc.) that contain a sugar substitute have digestive problems. To avoid such side effect, you should carefully study the composition of the purchased products, which manufacturers are required to indicate on the packaging.
  3. Abuse of carbonated drinks can also cause gas pollution.

Pathologies accompanied by swelling

Modern medicine identifies the following pathologies that are accompanied by bloating, for example:

  • cholecystitis;
  • diverticulosis;
  • pancreatitis;
  • intestinal atony;
  • colitis;
  • neoplasms of a malignant or benign nature, etc.

With the development of these diseases, patients are disturbed digestive processes. As a result, the production of enzymes begins to decline rapidly, and pathogenic intestinal microflora multiplies.

Food allergies are accompanied various symptoms, which includes swelling. When eating allergens such as chocolate, seafood, strawberries, citrus fruits, patients experience abdominal cramps, IBS develops.

Bloating accompanies such a pathology as intestinal dysbacteriosis, which is caused by stress, abuse of alcohol-containing drinks, and prolonged use of medications. With the development of such a disease in the intestine, the beneficial microflora is replaced by pathogenic bacteria.

Bloating in pregnancy

In the second trimester, expectant mothers often face problems in the digestive tract. They are constantly tormented by heartburn, constipation, flatulence. The reason for this condition is physiology. Due to the constant increase in the size of the uterus, pressure is exerted on the intestines. Also during this period may worsen chronic pathologies Gastrointestinal tract, for example, cholecystitis, gastritis, in which unpleasant symptoms occur.

It is also worth noting another reason for the increase in gas formation during pregnancy - an increase in progesterone levels. The action of this hormone is aimed at reducing the tone in muscle tissues located in the organs of the reproductive system. Active synthesis of progesterone leads to the formation congestion, flatulence.

Prevent occurrence pathological condition future mothers will be able to if, throughout all trimesters, they follow a special diet that excludes foods that increase gas formation. They should also eat often, but in very small portions, so as not to overload the digestive tract.

Treatment Methods

Before taking any medicines to remove gases from the intestines, people should contact medical institutions for advice. Specialists will conduct a complex diagnostic measures, thanks to which the cause of flatulence will be identified. After that, patients can prescribe the following medications:

  1. Tablets containing enzymes, for example, Festal, Pancreatin, Mezim. They help to cope with the problem caused by overeating.
  2. Probiotics. They are prescribed for dysbacteriosis, when there is a need to restore beneficial intestinal microflora.
  3. For constipation, laxatives are prescribed. For allergies that provoke flatulence, antihistamines are prescribed.
  4. To eliminate spasms, the reception of "Espumizan" is shown.
  5. Enterosorbents can be prescribed, which bind and remove bacteria and toxic substances from the body. For example, the problem is eliminated by Polysorb, Enteosgel, Smekta.

In the case where flatulence is caustic, people should not drink medicines right away. Remove gases from the intestines natural way prolonged hiking on the fresh air after meals. Also, experts recommend that this category of patients engage in self-massage, which involves circular movements in the abdomen, performed strictly clockwise. Such manipulations should be carried out within 20 minutes. You can do inclinations, pull up your legs, bent at the knees to the sternum and other exercises.

Folk recipes

To eliminate increased gas formation, people in whom they are not caused by serious gastrointestinal diseases can use "grandfather methods" at home. There is a large number folk recipes, the safety and effectiveness of which has been tested for centuries:

  1. Infusion prepared from chamomile. Dried and crushed raw materials (1 tablespoon) are poured into a deep bowl, boiling water (200 ml) is poured. The contents of the container are mixed and infused for four hours. The filtered liquid should be drunk in two tablespoons. l. during the day.
  2. A decoction made from dill seeds. Such a drug is used to eliminate gases in adults and in infants, in particular in newborns. Boiling water is poured into a glass, seeds are added (2 tablespoons). The contents of the container must be infused for at least 60 minutes.
  3. An infusion made from caraway seeds. It should be prepared according to the principle of dill water.

In parallel with the "grandfather" methods, people should follow a diet. From the daily diet, all harmful foods that are poorly digested and provoke gas formation should be excluded. But, such methods of eliminating discomfort are suitable for those people who do not have serious health problems. If the cause of bloating is the pathology of the gastrointestinal tract, then specialists should deal with the elimination of concomitant symptoms. They will prescribe to patients medication course therapy, physiotherapy, etc.

Flatulence is called the state of excessive formation of gases during the digestion of intestinal pulp. The reasons for the development of such a condition may be diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, a violation of the enzymatic process, or the use of a large number of products that cause fermentation and increased decomposition of crushed products. Intestinal bloating affects both men and women, as well as infants and children. Such a situation of a delicate nature worries 24 hours a day, is especially unpleasant during work, in transport or in in public places. Getting rid of gases in these places is not realistic, because they not only puff, bursting the stomach, but also smell disgusting. Therefore, the question arises: “the stomach and gas are constantly swollen, what should I do?”

Bloating in some cases is accompanied by painful colic. Pain and gas formation do not always go hand in hand, that is, under certain conditions, an infectious agent that affects the intestines causes painful colic. When eating foods with a lot of yeast, pain is not observed, but gases are present. Foods and drinks that contain sugar and yeast are the most common causes of bloating. These include: pastries, cakes, cookies, chocolate and simple sweets, pies, kvass and beer.

Dairy products, legumes, cabbage, vegetables and fruits - completely produce gases. From sauerkraut, pickles and marinade, the stomach also swells, and gases are released until the intestines are completely emptied. To find out why the stomach and gases constantly puff up, what to do - you need to find out the main reason, because in addition to the food you eat, there are other factors that contribute to gas formation, intestinal spasms and disruption normal operation GIT.

Constant flatulence develops as a result of:

  • Eating without interruption from work, during which a large amount of air enters the stomach with food, the result of which is flatulence.
  • All types of rubber gum lead to gas formation.
  • Constant food fast food.
  • stressful situations.
  • Chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract such as: hyperacid gastritis, gastroduodenitis, cholecystitis, pancreatitis, cholecysto-pancreatitis, colitis, proctitis, sigmoiditis, Crohn's disease.
  • Endocrine pathologies in the form diabetes, diffuse toxic goiter, hormonal imbalance of sex hormones (estrogen and androgen).
  • Surgical interventions: operations on the gastrointestinal tract, removal of a quarter of the stomach, resection of a certain area of the small or large intestine, as well as operations on other vital systems.
  • Intoxication with various substances.
  • Constant consumption of mayonnaise, canned vegetables, meat and meat dishes, as well as legumes and pastries.
  • Sedentary lifestyle or pathologies bedridden and wheelchair bound.
  • Pathological disorders of the enzymatic activity of the intestine.
  • Dysbacteriosis different etiology(most often pathology occurs due to long-term use of antibiotics a wide range actions).
  • Intestinal strictures and neoplasms.
  • Intestinal polyps.
  • Worm infestation.

Advice! If the bloating lasts more than a month, it is recommended to consult a gastroenterologist.

Early screening can prevent serious complications, as well as to detect pathologies on early stage development.

What to do if the stomach is often swollen?

You can stop flatulence by medications. In parallel, you need to reconsider the nutritious diet and lifestyle. The preparations act on gas formation on the principle of adsorption and defoaming. Adsorbents completely absorb gases, but are trapped together with gases and nutrients(vitamins, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and bacteria necessary for the normal fermentation of food pulp). It is strongly recommended to take these drugs for no more than a week, frequent and prolonged use will lead to metabolic disorders. Defoamers are more effective and have no side reactions.

List of drugs for the treatment of flatulence:

Enterosorbents

Activated carbonProven and quality product in diseases and poisoning of the gastrointestinal tract.
CarbolectAdsorb gaseous foam and intestinal toxins.
KarbosorbIt has a fast adsorbing effect. A good remedy for removing toxins after food poisoning.

Defoamers

EspumizanDissolves gaseous foam and normalizes bowel function. The drug is available in capsules. For small patients, the drug is prescribed in the form of a suspension.
PepfizDefoamer for intestinal flatulence of any etiology. Available in effervescent tablets.
AzulanA mild defoamer that relaxes the intestinal muscles.

Antispasmodics

No-ShpaHas an antispasmodic effect. Eliminates gastrointestinal colic.
SpazmonetStrong selective antispasmodic.
SpazmlRelaxes the intestines and removes colic.

Combined drugs

PepfizEnzymes with defoamer.

Note! All drugs are approved by the Ministry of Health, but it is recommended to take after laboratory and instrumental research and only on doctor's orders.

A gastroenterologist will help with the answer to a delicate question: the stomach and gases are constantly swollen, what should I do? According to the results of the survey and laboratory tests prescribe one of the indicated drugs. In case of dysbacteriosis, he will prescribe probiotics (Bifidumbaketrin, Linex or Bifiform). Lactic acid bacteria will bring the intestines back to normal physiological rhythm, eliminating pathological fermentation and normalizing the composition of the intestinal flora. Bio-yogurts or homemade yogurts will also easily eliminate gas and stop flatulence with intestinal colic and diarrhea.

Popular traditional medicine recipes

The stomach and gases are constantly puffing up the reasons, what if all this happened far from the pharmacy? There are two proven options: some physical exercises and folk decoctions, teas and tinctures.

The first option is special exercises

  • We put on looser clothes and lie down on our stomach, then raise our arms and legs up. Exercises are repeated up to 20-30 times.
  • We lie down on our side and bend one leg at the knee, straighten the second and lift it up and lower it down. We repeat 20 times. Then we turn to the other side and repeat the same movements.
  • We strain the rectus abdominis muscles up to 30 or more times.
  • We make rotational movements of the body: 20 times to the right and 20 times to the left. Then we do slopes down to 20-30 times.

Additional Information! If gases begin to be released and it becomes easier and freer in the abdomen, try to eat only foods that do not cause gases, and drink more strong black tea, it tones and relaxes the muscles of the intestine, plus it improves the functioning of the digestive tract. Do not eat anything 2 hours before bed.

The second option: traditional medicine

In nature, tablets are replaced by herbal infusions or decoctions. From time immemorial, herbs have been treated for any ailment, and to this day, they continue to help get rid of them. This is especially true of excessive formation of gases in the intestines. For removal pain syndrome and spasms, the following healing recipes are recommended:

  1. Dill "water": 2 tsp dill seeds pour 200 ml of boiling water, leave for 30 minutes. Drink half a glass 2 times a day before meals. The decoction helps with flatulence for both infants and children, and adults, the only difference is the dosage.
  2. A decoction of wormwood, raspberry leaves and acacia flowers: dried herbs are taken in a teaspoon each and poured into 300 ml hot water. Insist 40 minutes. Drink 50 ml on an empty stomach. Diet Adjustment

Flatulence can be eliminated by adjusting the nutritional diet. In addition to food main reason flatulence can be acute or chronic pathology of the gastrointestinal tract. First, laboratory and instrumental examinations should be carried out to exclude any diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Then, on your own or resorting to the advice of a nutritionist, bring the nutritious diet into “order”. All foods that cause bloating are excluded, as well as fatty, fried, smoked and salty foods. Or all of the above is used rarely and in small quantities.

Butter products are replaced by rye bread and crackers. Beans, soy and fresh cabbage- in some cases, they are completely removed from the menu. And in some they are left, but in small quantities and once or twice a week. These products contain a large amount nutrients, in calories equal to meat products. From fruits, all types are used, except for pears, gooseberries and plums. Milk is not recommended, and ryazhenka and kefir, as well as cottage cheese, are used in small portions. Carbonated drinks and juices with preservatives are completely excluded.
