Eurosport athletics european championship. European Championships in Athletics: Polish Surprise and Disqualified Stepanova

The European Championships in Athletics is an athletics competition held in open stadiums between athletes from different European countries. The championship has been held since 1934 under the leadership of the European Athletics Organization. Until 2012, the championship was held every four years, and since 2012 it was decided to hold the tournament every two years.

In 2016, the European Athletics Championships will be held in Amsterdam for the first time in history. Turkish Istanbul and Croatian Split fought for the right to host the tournament, but the capital of the Netherlands outperformed the rest of the contenders. To some extent, the 2016 European Championship will be significant, since it will be held for the second time in a row after 2012 in the same year as.

European Athletics Championship

The opening ceremony of the European Championships in Athletics will take place on July 6, 2016, and the closing ceremony will take place on July 10, 2016. Due to the fact that the Summer Olympic Games start less than a month after the athletics championship - on August 12 - disciplines requiring a long recovery, such as a marathon and race walking, will not be included in the program of the European tournament.

However, Amsterdam will feature road running, a half marathon that will be open to athletes competing for the continental championship. At the same time, amateur runners who will be able to follow the distance after professional athletes will be allowed to participate in the half marathon. For the first time, such an opportunity was realized in 2014 in Copenhagen at the half marathon world championship.

European Youth Championship

In addition to the traditional championship, in 2016 the first European Youth Championship in Athletics will be held, in which athletes under the age of 18 will take part. The tournament will take place in early July 2016 and will run over four days.

Athletes who are officially members of the federations represented by the European Athletics Association will be allowed to participate in the tournament. In 2013, the association decided to hold a European youth tournament every two years. At the same time, the competition program will be similar to the program of the World Youth Championship.

Thus, a gap in the system was filled: previously there was no youth tournament during the years of the Summer Olympic Games, as well as the absence of the European Youth Athletics Championships. In May 2014, the members of the European Athletics Association decided that the first European Youth Championships in Athletics would be held in 2016 in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi.

From July 14 to July 17, 2016 in Tbilisi (Georgia) the European Championships in athletics among youths will be held, and on July 19-24 in Bydgoszcz (Poland) the World Junior Championships will be held. Initially, the tournament was supposed to be held in Kazan, but in November 2015, the IAAF (International Athletics Federation) took away the right to host the tournament from the city.

The European Athletics Championships under 18 this year is held for the first time in history. Unfortunately, in addition to the Russian Olympians, the IAAF turned out to be suspended from competitions by young athletes who are just starting their career in sports and who could not fulfill at least one of the criteria - being outside the territory of the Russian Federation for a long time.

Removing young athletes from competition is a blow to the future, not only in Russian athletics, but in the world.

The head coach of the youth national team of Russia Viktor Shpak spoke about the prospects of his wards:“In total, we had 24 people in the pool of those athletes who passed out-of-competition tests through the IAAF. Of these, three are shestovichki - and according to the rules, only two athletes can represent the country in one event, plus two more people were injured. As a result, 21 athletes sent applications to the IAAF. All of them fulfilled the standards and meet the selection criteria. True, at the time of the competition, only 19 of them had three out-of-competition tests. But this is no longer our concern, but a question for UKAD - our guys are open for control at any time.

Children are very responsible and adult approached this. I constantly repeat: do not get hung up, you still have a long way to go! It is my deep conviction that there are two ages that have nothing to do with the current situation at all - these are young men and veterans. All these years we have only brought medals, and we have never compromised ourselves in anything. But unfortunately, as a result of the ban, we lost the opportunity to hold match meetings, in particular, with Belarus and Latvia, which were absolutely necessary. Just imagine: a person arrives at a competition, and for the first time sees what a call room is, has no idea from which side to enter it and what they do there. Or he looks with square eyes at the results of his opponents, although he himself is potentially ready no worse, just there is no experience of such competition yet. The tradition of these match meetings allowed us to gradually prepare the guys for entering the international arena. And now we can only hope that common sense will prevail and next year we will return our right to perform fully.”

About what awaits Russian athletics in the future, about the doping situation and how to get out of it, MK correspondent in St. Petersburg, Irina Chertinova, talked with a member of the Russian national team who wished to remain anonymous.

The suspension of Russian athletes from participation in international competitions operates according to the method of sanctions imposed for an indefinite period. Will children go in for athletics if their future prospects in this sport are very vague?

They will, of course. Until the age of 14-15, they will definitely train. Parents do not care what kind of sport their child does, as long as he is busy. But as for professional athletes - here I am a pessimist. It seems to me that we were uncoupled for a long time, and each of them will have to decide what to do: either go to the factory to work, or leave the country. There are few options. At this stage, the domestic system of doping control is destroyed. Now our athletes are being tested by officers of the British Anti-Doping Agency. Everything shows that we were clamped down and will be kept in a black body as long as they want.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has rejected all applications of Russian athletes to participate in the Olympic Games, except for long jumper Darya Klishina.

Unfortunately, in addition to the Russian Olympians, young athletes who could not fulfill such criteria as being outside the territory of the Russian Federation for a long time and a small number of out-of-competition doping tests turned out to be suspended from the competition.

Today, July 6, the 2016 European Athletics Championships started in Amsterdam. For the second time in a row, the European Athletics Forum is held in the year of the Olympic Games. As you remember, already on August 12, an athletics tournament starts at the Olympics in Rio, so the organizers excluded sports requiring a long recovery, such as a marathon, from the European Championship 2016. Another feature of the 2016 European Athletics Championships was that Russian athletes were not allowed to compete. The reason is the doping scandal that takes place in the Russian team.

AMSTERDAM, July 11 - R-Sport, Elena Sobol. The European Athletics Championships, an unprecedented composition of participants, ended in Amsterdam on Sunday with the triumph of the Polish team, which sensationally won the unofficial team standings.

The Poles won six gold, five silver and one bronze medals. The second place was taken by the Germans (5-4-7), and the British became the third (5-3-8). The competitions were held for the first time without the Russian team.

The Russian national team does not compete in international tournaments due to the disqualification of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (VFLA), imposed by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). The IAAF Council on June 17 upheld the disqualification of the ARAF and, accordingly, the removal of Russian athletes from international competitions. On July 2, the Russian Olympic Committee and 68 Russian athletes filed a lawsuit against the IAAF over their participation in international competitions. The Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne (CAS) will announce its decision on the claim no later than July 21.

How Stepanova was disqualified

Klishina outraged social networks with gratitude to the IAAF for admission to the OlympicsThe International Association of Athletics Federations has rejected almost all applications of Russian athletes to participate in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. An exception was made only for Klishina.

On the first day of the competition, only one set of awards was played - in the 10,000 meters, but the main focus was not on the finals: the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) informant Yulia Stepanova returned to the track at a distance of 800 meters after a year's absence, who, as and all other Russians, did not have the right to participate in international starts after the removal of the ARAF. A few days before the start, she received official permission from the IAAF, and as a neutral athlete entered the start in Amsterdam under the flag of the European Athletics Association (EAA).

However, the return in triumph did not work. From the first lap, Stepanova failed to keep up the pace set by the leaders of the race, and on the second lap she lagged significantly behind, taking a step shortly before the finish line. As it turned out, the athlete had been worried about a foot injury for three weeks. The athlete was disqualified from the race.

“Three weeks before the start, I knew that I had an injury, that my foot was very sore from the fact that I accelerated a lot in spikes. I really hoped that I would still be able to run and show some result. Doctor gave me painkillers, I thought it would help. But from the very start I felt pain. It was, however, not so strong. I thought that I could still run, but 200 meters before the finish line, I felt like some kind of pop in my leg, sharp pain. I couldn’t run further. I thought that something was broken or torn off," Stepanova said after the race.

"It was hard for me to train under all this pressure, but I continued training. Performing for me ... I am very happy that they gave me the chance to continue my sports career, that I was invited here. I am very happy to be in these competitions, to have the opportunity to start. Like me I understood from Russian news that in Russia no one wants me to compete under the Russian flag. Therefore, if I am invited to the Olympic Games, I will compete under a neutral flag, "she added, assuring that she" feels the support of European athletes.

Mutko said he had a better opinion of the head of the IAAF Sebastian CoeThe head of the IAAF, Sebastian Coe, was unable to cope with increased political pressure in deciding not to allow Russian athletes to participate in the Olympics, said Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko.

A day later, she met with IAAF President Sebastian Coe, who wrote on his social networks after the meeting: "We need to better understand the detrimental impact that extends to our young athletes."

The triumph of the Poles and the rest of the gold miners

If two years ago Polish athletes took a modest sixth place with two gold medals, then in Amsterdam they clearly made a huge step forward by winning the team classification. This year, the victories were Adam Kschot (800 m), Robert Sobera (pole), who sensationally won in his sector due to a tactical blunder of the French Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie, Piotr Malakhovskiy (disc), Pavel Faydek (hammer), Angelika Tsikhotskaya (1500 m ) and Anita Wlodarczyk (hammer). The team ensured its success literally on the last day of the competition.

Isinbayeva urged fans not to pay attention to the decision of the IAAFRussian pole vaulter Elena Isinbaeva commented on the decision of the IAAF Council, which rejected the applications of Russian athletes for admission to the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The tournament can also be considered successful for the Germans and the British, who, although they won fewer medals than two years ago, will still return home with five gold medals. As part of the German team, the victories were won by Max Hess (triple jump), David Storl (core), Cindy Roleder (100 m s/b), Geza-Felicitas Krause (3000 m s/p) and Christina Schwanitz (core).

Martin Rooney (400m), James Dasaolu, Adam Gemily, James Ellington and Chijindu Uja (4 x 100m relay), Greg Rutherford (length), Dina Asher-Smith (200m), Emily Diamond, Anika Onuora, Eileed Doyle, Soren Bundy-Davies, Margaret Adeoye and Kelly Massey (4 x 400m relay)

VFLA: IAAF refusal to admit Russians to the Junior European Championship is a blow to the futureVery young athletes who could not fulfill at least one of the criteria - being outside the territory of the Russian Federation for a long time, turned out to be suspended from the competition, according to a press release from the ARAF.

I want to see these guys and the girl in the finals on Sunday / Facebook, alamy

On the last, fifth day European Athletics Championships at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, only the finals will be held - there will be 14 of them.

Ukrainian athletes can potentially take part in 11 if they make it there in the previous days. In particular, on Sunday, the three-time European champion in the triple jump can compete for medals Olga Saladukha and silver medalist of Europe-2014 high jumper Andrei Protsenko.

Besides, European Athletics Federation is testing another innovation - instead of the classic marathon in Amsterdam, they will run half marathon distance 21.097 m. Five strong athletes will represent Ukraine in the women's race, and as many as 6 in the men's race.

In this news, the schedule is available, and during the competition all the results will be available, in particular the results of the Ukrainians - we, as always, will update them promptly.
